► Who was the founder of the Churches of Christ?

⇗

The Church of Christ was founded by Christ Jesus Himself. In Mt. 16:13-19 Jesus revealed to His followers that He would found His Church. This Church was founded on the truth that He is the Christ (Savior) and the Son of the living God.

This Church was begun on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2: 14-41. On that day 3,000 souls received Christ in baptism for the remission (forgiveness) of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

The distinctive marks of the Church of Christ include following the doctrines and practices of the Church described in the New Testament. The written word of God, the Bible is our only guide. We do not have creeds, books of practice or doctrine, or social principles or positions. We stand only on God's word. We also practice baptism as practiced in the conversion of the saints in the New Testament. We partake of the Lord's Supper each Sunday as described in Acts 20:7. We hold all sins declared by God to be sins regardless of popular social opinion. We believe that upon death each person's soul will be saved in heaven or lost eternally in hell as Jesus taught. For this reason we strive to practice the Lord's Great Commission found in Mt. 28:18-20, so that men might choose Christ and be saved!
